The BAYER Process
 |
The process for the industrial production of alumina, the BAYER process, was created in 1887, one year after the invention of the electrolytic process by Hall and Héroult (the manufacturing of alumina from aluminium).
This process was implemented for the first time in 1893, by the “pure alumina” company, in Gardanne (South of France), a setting close to both the bauxite and the coal that is nessecary for the thermal supply.
