Vaudreuil, Quebec
Built in 1936, the Vaudreuil alumina plant is one of the foundations of the Alcan Company. With a capacity of 1.4 million tonnes per year, about 90% is supplied to the Alcan smelters of the Saguenay region for aluminium manufacturing. The plant itself is located in Jonquiere, 190 km north of Quebec City. Bauxite arrives at the port of LaBaie on the River Saguenay and is transported to the plant by rail. The Specialty Alumina and Hydrate plants are located within the Jonquiere complex. These businesses evolved following a series of substantial investments in the 1980s and 1990s. The Specialty Alumina plant offers a range of Calcined, Low Soda and Reactive aluminas, in the unground, ground and superground condition. The Specialty Hydrate plant produces top of the range Superwhite hydrate and a basic dried hydrate. |
